A late‑1990s Palm OS handheld, the Palm VII was among the first PDAs with a built‑in wireless antenna, using the Palm.net service over the Mobitex network to send email and access pared‑down web content via Web Clipping apps.

Importance in Internet Culture

The Palm VII demonstrated always‑on, location‑aware mobile data years before smartphones, pioneering a proxy‑based, app‑like Web Clipping model that foreshadowed the modern mobile web and app ecosystem.

Interesting Fact

Palm VII web‑clipping queries could automatically transmit the device’s unique ID and the user’s approximate ZIP‑code location, and without the special “PalmComputingPlatform” meta tag the proxy would truncate pages after 1024 bytes.
